My successful regi form for Tata JagritiYatra08!

Who is your role model in life?

My role model is APJ Abdul kalam. I know he is a role model for lakhs of youth acorss India but what makes him special to me is his love for India more than anything else. Each time i read his speeches i am left wondering on how one can love India so much?Though all indians are patriotic only few really love our nation with all its weakness and strenghts. There will not be anyone among us who have not cursed india at one point or the other about its underdevelopment, lack of opportunities, corruption etc etc.But never can you find even once Dr.Kalam saying a negative word about india or the least a negative connotation about India in his books or speeches. As we love our parents even though they may have weakness, inabilites etc Dr.Kalam teached me the great lesson to love India with complete heart, accept our motherland with all its problems and do all we can to make a change in india. Together i stand with him to achieve the dream of a developed India by 2020.Thank you Kalam for making me love india![P.S:I am planning to travel 1500kms-one way-to my hometown from my workplace just to mark my vote for the coming loksabha elections because i love India!]

Have you already done something, which demonstrates social or business entrepreneurship?

Being a \"good samaritan\" i guess i have been through enough volunteering work to write a paragraph about it like visits to orphanges, mental hosp, cenrtal prison.Cleaning up premises of govt hospitals, population day awareness run, traffic control as part of NCC[National cadet corps].Various other church based initiatives like helping out poor people, visit to rural areas etc have only made me a better person with a better understanding of the needs of the society. What i want to describe here is not these intiatives which will easily help me to colour up my resume but my small steps to build up a better India or encourage fellow citizens to do so.

1.Interview to BBC radio: On the eve of 2004 loksabha elections,BBC radio came to our college to interview few youth to guage the mood of the younger generation of India towards politics, election and India as a whole. As my friends expressed their distress over the status of underdeveloped India and their plans to migrate to US,UK etc I strongly worded my love for India and my hope that India will shine with a good leadership for which i am ready to sacrifice my good career. The result:in the final run of the telecast broadcasted aroung the globe, they edited all the negatives spoken by my friend and gave prime importance to my patriotic repertoire- indian values upholded by a british media!

2.Paper presentation contest: Technical Paper presentation contests are very common platform for engineering students to showcase their technical talents and get connected to a similar group of like minded enginners who are the future of India.Looking for an opportunity to spread my love for india,I added a special section on my ppt which was speaking about wireless communication.I described in length on how we can use wireless communication for the better connectivity of rural areas taking cue from India2020 by Dr.kalam.The amusement and smiles of the audience proved my excersise was not futile and myself ended up with a prize for my presentation.

3.Seminar on e-governance: Every engineering student have to do a seminar work as part of his course work for which people select core techincal subjects.I selected e-governance which not only helped me to explore the technicalities but also the way it can be utilised for India. The result:my presentation got the longest Q&A section from the audience particularly on the way in which it can help India.I am sure i have ignited a spark tat day in ateast one mind to burn for India. To have a better understanding on social entrepreneurship i am currently doing a part time 4 months course in social entrepreneurship and ngo management in centre for social impact and management[csim]in hyderabad through which i came to know about this yatra.

In your opinion, what is the single biggest challenge that India faces in the next decade?

I feel the greatest challenge will be the increasing urban-rural divide which has arised due to our sky rocketing economy.Though its a moment of pride for all indians that our economy is growing steadily, its slowly buidling up a great wall of disparities between the rich and the poor. Its true that the divide exists even before the current situation but what is alarming is the rate at which the gap is growing. On one side India celebrates its economical prowess with billionares coming in the wealthy list,hi-fi shopiing malls sprucing up in every nook n corner of cities,bi g cars, lavish western lifestyle hitherto unknown to the rich indian, the poor class is left without nothing to celebrate, rather the sudden growth is making a hell for their peaceful existence.Big shopping malls,SEZs,industries deprives them of their basic necessities life agricultual land, shelter etc not to mention the environmental impact.Inshort the growth is uneven creating lot of opportunities to the rich and middle class squezing the poor to the brink as if india dont need the rural population for its existence!

What will be your contribution towards addressing the challenge you mentioned above?

A well informed, educated and well connected community stands less chance to be exploited than an isolated, illiterate rural population. As the time is less and cost is huge the key solution to this problem will be utilising the prospects of Information and Communication Technology[ICT].A well defined plan in the form of PURA[Providing urban opportunities in rural areas]has been developed by Dr.Kalam in this regard. This project basically speaks about bringing the opportunities in urban areas to the rual side thereby preventing the practise of rural migration to cities and facilitating the development of rural areas. This is possible only through harnessing ICT.In todays world communication and tehcnology can play the key role of driving this change of bringing the urban-rural gap in a very short span with very low expenditure.Once the people in the rural side gets educated, informed and connected to the cities they will be equiped to create oppotunities in the rural areas itself thereby bringing the gap. This cant happen without the help of ICT specialist or i would say professionals who should be deployed as change agents for this mission.I see myself as a change agent equipped with an engineering degree in information technology and 2years of experience in the IT industry.I am willing to use myself for this change which is the need of the hour for India which i think will not speed up until, well supported by professionals of my kind! What we have left with us is 10yrs to achive our mission of a developed india compared to the 60yrs left unutilised!

Why do you think you should be selected to be on Jagriti Yatra?

India in books and films is a far cry from the India in reality. If i get inspired about India thru books like freedon at midnight, wings of fire and films like swades and chakde india,I am sure that i will be set on fire on witnessing the real India! What better opportunity than Jagriti Yatra running through the heart of mother India. If selected and sponsored I am even ready to quit my IT job for this \"once in a lifetime\" opporuninty to be part of an intiative which i am realy passionate abt-India[My nation My pride]!
